Brother’s mid-range mono laser printer, the HLL5100dn, is a good choice when you want a fast, no-frills printer that delivers good value for money and doesn’t demand too much desk space.

With a 250-sheet paper tray, a 50-sheet multipurpose feeder, and a print speed of up to 40 pages per minute, this dependable workhorse won’t let you down. It automatically prints double-sided at up to 20 sides a minute when you want to save on paper and has a recommended monthly print volume of up to 3,500 pages. If you need more paper capacity, you can add extra LT-5500 or LT-6500 paper trays (for up to 1,340 sheets total).

For toner replacements, you have two options: standard yield TN-3415 (3,000 pages) or high yield TN-3425 (8,000 pages). The printer drum and toner cartridge are separate, and your printer will notify you when a new DR3415 drum is required (typically once you have printed about 30,000 pages). Although toner and drum replacements aren’t cheap, you can keep your running costs low by purchasing the high-yield cartridge, and you can save much more if you opt for the third-party compatible toner and drum.

You can connect the HLL5100dn to an Ethernet network, or directly to your computer with a USB cable. This is not a wireless printer; however, once the printer is connected to your network with an Ethernet cable, you can connect to it wirelessly if the network includes a wireless access point. You can also print with a smartphone using Apple AirPrint, Mopria, or the Brother iPrint&Scan app.

The HLL5100dn is a compact mono printer and a dependable option for small workgroups needing to print pages very quickly. It can handle large print jobs and produces high-quality text at 1,200 dpi resolution. Delivery of oversized printers that are too heavy for normal courier delivery is done by Mainfreight and may take a little longer on occasions.
