Product Details: For busy offices, Brother’s top-of-the-line mono workgroup printer checks all the right boxes. The Brother HL-L6400dw is a single-function printer that produces great-looking text and graphics and churns out 50 A4 pages per minute (24 sides a minute when printing double-sided). Recommended monthly print volume is up to 10,000 pages; with a maximum duty cycle of 150,00 pages a month.

Running costs are kept remarkably low thanks to the availability of super-high and ultra-high capacity toner cartridges and long-lasting components. The drum (DR-3415) will last for up to 50,000 A4 pages if your typical print job averages three pages. With your purchase you also get a generous amount of toner (enough to print up to 8,000 pages) and, when you need more, you have a range of options. This printer uses either standard TN-3415 toner (for up to 3,000 pages per cartridge); high-yield TN-3425 toner (up to 8,000 pages), super high-yield TN-3465 toner (up to 12,000 pages), or ultra-high yield TN-3475 (up to 20,000 pages). The higher the yield the more expensive your purchase, but the more economical the toner.

Out of the box, the input paper tray capacity is 570 sheets, split between a lower tray and a 50-sheet multipurpose tray. When your printing needs grow, you can easily increase paper capacity by adding optional paper trays, all the way up to accommodate a total of 2,650 sheets (with the addition of a tower tray).

As well as USB 2.0, the HL-L6400dw offers high-speed wired (10Base-T/100Base-TX/1000Base-T) and wireless (IEEE 802.11b/g/n) network connectivity. For convenient mobile printing, it supports Apple AirPrint, Mopria, Cortado Workplace, Wi-Fi Direct, and Brother’s own mobile apps. It also features an integrated NFC Reader to allow printing from compatible Android mobile devices and a USB host port for direct printing from external storage devices.

Security features include Secure Print (users need to enter a PIN code before their print job is released); Secure Function Lock (which limits access to printer features depending on the user); and Active Directory for network user authentication. The NFC Reader also allows the use of compatible cards for secure authentication.

While it shares the same proportions and is similarly specced to the Brother HL-L6200dw, the HL-6400dw expects heavier workloads. The recommended print volume is double, and it comes with more memory and more toner. Unlike the HL-L6200dw, it will work with the ultra-high-yield TN-3475 toner. It also has more expansion options, allowing for almost twice as much input paper capacity.

Overall, the Brother HL-L6400dw is a good choice for busy offices that need fast, reliable mono laser printing at high volume, while keeping operating costs to a minimum.
