Brother calls this a “smart” printer because it comes with features that make it convenient, efficient, and cost-effective. Convenient? Yes, if you don’t like running out of ink, then this could be the printer for you. The MFC-J4440dw runs on large LC436 (high-yield) and LC436XL (super-high-yield) ink cartridges. You get an estimated 5,000 printed pages from an XL colour cartridge page; and a whopping 6,000 pages from an XL black cartridge. But it’s not just that the ink is long-lasting — your cost per page is exceedingly low, and lower still if you opt for third-party compatible XL cartridges.

Smart doesn’t stop there. This printer is designed for printing from any device, whether or not you are on the network. You don’t need to be sat at your desk, or even near the printer. As well as Wireless Direct which lets you connect directly to the printer (even if the network is down), it includes Near-Field Communication (NFC) printing (you simply tap your smartphone or tablet on the printer to print).

The MFC-J4440dw also does all the bread-and-butter stuff you would expect of an All-in-One printer, and it does it remarkably well. Print speed is fast for both mono and colour pages, with automatic double-sided printing an option. You’ll get sharp and clear documents (at up to 1200 x 4800 dpi) that are fast-drying, long-lasting, and fade-resistant, thanks to the printer’s pigment-based inks. Scan resolution is up to 1200 x 2400 dpi, or 1200 x 600 dpi when using the 20-sheet automatic document feeder for multiple-page documents.

Typically deliveries to major New Zealand towns and cities take 1 to 2 days, while it may take a day or two longer for rural areas. Delivery of oversized printers that are too heavy for normal courier delivery is done by Mainfreight and may take a little longer on occasions. You’ll be notified when your order has been dispatched and provided with a tracking number so you can monitor the progress of your order.
