If you need an A3 printer and have the space for it, the Brother MFC-J5740dw has a lot to offer. While this cost-effective multifunction printer is heavy and bulky, it’s also fast, with print speeds of up to 28ipm mono or colour, and scans at up to 25ipm. There’s an automatic document feeder (ADF) with a 50-sheet capacity, plus two 250-sheet paper trays and a 100-sheet multi-purpose tray. And you get double-sided printing, scanning, copying, and faxing up to A4 size. So far, so good…but it doesn’t stop there.

The MFC-J5740dw has dual-band wireless and Wi-Fi Direct capabilities, plus Ethernet and USB 2.0 for wired connections. Cloud printing is supported, as are Apple AirPrint, Mopria, and Brother’s mobile print apps. You can print directly from a USB flash drive too, and there’s a colour touchscreen LCD (8.8cm) for stand-alone use.

For Brother MFC-J5740dw ink, you need black, cyan, magenta, and yellow LC432 or LC432XL cartridges. You can choose to use third-party compatible LC432XL inks too — and save money — or you can opt for the high-yield version (LC432XL) to get even more prints out of each cartridge. Value Pack bundles of standard-yield and high-yield cartridges are also available.

The Brother MFC-J5740dw has a recommended monthly print volume of 250-2,500 pages, which will suit most small offices. One thing — while this printer produces A4 and A3 size prints, it only scans and copies up to A4 size. If that’s a problem, then you need the Brother MFC-J6540dw or MFC-J6940dw.

Delivery of oversized printers that are too heavy for normal courier delivery is done by Mainfreight and may take a little longer on occasions.
