You get a lot for your money with the Brother MFC-L2713dw, a printer that will readily find a place in small and home offices. What you don’t get, of course, is colour, but this printer will scan, copy and fax as well as print. You get automatic duplex (double-sided) printing, too, and fast enough print speeds that you won’t be kept waiting — 34 A4 pages a minute; 15 sides a minute when printing duplex. Copying is fast too at up to 30 pages per minute, but you don’t get duplex copying, scanning or faxing. What you do get though, is a printer that doesn’t make a lot of noise because even when printing at high speed, it does so at less than 50dB.

This is a sturdy but light (11.8kg) printer, compact enough to fit on a desk or almost anywhere you choose to put it. Set it up and connect over a wired or wireless network, or via USB 2.0 or Wi-Fi Direct. Print from a mobile device using Apple AirPrint, Mopria, Cortado Cloud Print, or Brother’s iPrint&Scan.

With this printer, the drum and toner are separate, so you aren’t paying extra for an integrated drum with every toner refill. When you do need more toner, you can choose either standard-yield Brother TN-2415 (1,200 pages), or high-yield TN-2445 (3,000 pages). Buy TN-2445 if you print enough to warrant it, as the cost per page is lower. Better still, if you want to save money, you can also get third-party compatible toner. After you have printed about 12,000 pages, you will need to replace the DR-2415 imaging drum (your printer will notify you when) and you can also cut costs if you opt for a third-party compatible.
