Product Details: For business users on a budget, there’s a lot to like about the Canon MAXIFY GX4060. It’s a step up from the appealing GX3060, adding an automatic document feeder (ADF), automatic double-sided printing, Ethernet connectivity, and fax capabilities.
Yes, the price is a bit more expensive than you might pay for an all-in-one inkjet, but this is an ink tank printer. While it is not as fast as a laser printer, the GX4060’s ink tank refills are less expensive and cost per page is lower than using toner. Busy offices with lots to print will save money in the long run with the GX4060.
Fill the tanks with four standard-size GI66 ink bottles and you can print up to 6,000 mono pages and 14,000 colour pages (9,000 mono pages and 21,000 pages in economy mode). These inks are pigment-based, producing smudge-resistant documents with sharp, clean text. Third-party compatible Canon GI66 ink refill bottles are also available, offering an even lower cost per page. While the Black GI66 refills are 162ml, and each Colour refill is 132ml, the ink included when you purchase the printer comes in a smaller “starter” size, with lower page yields than you will get from subsequent refills.
The GX4060 isn’t a fast printer, delivering documents at a speed of 18 images per minute (ipm) for monochrome printing and 13 ipm in colour. Print resolution is up to 600 x 1200 dpi, while scan resolution is up to 1200 x 2400 dpi. The printer accepts heavier media like rigid paper and double-sided matte paper (up to 0.7mm). You can print up to A4 size, or banners up to 1.2m wide. Paper capacity is a total 350 sheets, split between the front cassette (250 sheets of plain paper) and rear tray (100 sheets).
At Good Egg, we’re fans of ink tank printers like the GX4060 because they’re less expensive over the long term. But if you don’t do much scanning and don’t need an automatic document feeder or a fax, you can also save money by buying the less expensive Canon GX3060 instead.
