For all its many capabilities, the versatile and impressive Canon MAXIFY GX7060 is a compact and lightweight printer that demands surprisingly little office space. With fast print speeds, generous paper trays, useful features and easy connectivity, it’s ideal for small businesses or home offices looking for an efficient and economical printer.

This is a 4-in-1 printer — it can scan, copy, and fax, as well as print — and, like other printers in the MAXIFY range, the GX7060 is intended for high-volume printing environments. Sold as the GX7020 in the US (and the GX7050 in the UK), the GX7060 is not quite as fast as a laser printer, but it is even more economical — Canon claims a 90% saving in ink/toner cost per page, and a similar reduction in energy consumption, compared to a similarly-featured laser. Text and graphics are sharp and vibrant and laser-quality at 600 x 1200 dpi. However, if you are printing photos, the quality is no match for what you would get from a dedicated photo printer.

The GX-7060 supports single-pass duplexing (meaning it can scan both sides of a double-sided document in a single pass). It has two paper trays, each capable of holding up to 250 sheets of 64gsm A4 paper, together with a 50-sheet ADF (automatic document feeder). Additionally, the rear paper tray has space for 100 sheets. It handles various media types and sizes, including letterheads, brochures, envelopes, and banners up to 1.2 meters in length, from 64 to 275gsm. As for ink, the reservoirs can handle up to 580ml in total — enough to print up to 20,000 pages before needing to be refilled.

Because this ink tank printer uses refillable ink bottles rather than ink cartridges, it’s both cost-effective and environmentally friendly. What’s more, long-lasting print heads ensure that the printer can handle large volumes of prints without suffering from clogging or other common problems associated with traditional inkjet printers.

When you need a top-up, the four refillable ink tanks require Canon GI66 pigment-based ink. The ink bottle refills are comparatively inexpensive considering the number of pages you can expect to print — each colour cartridge is rated to print up to 14,000 A4 pages, with up to 6,000 pages from a single bottle of black ink.

You can connect to the printer via wired and wireless LAN, WiFi Direct, or USB, and it can be used as a stand-alone device thanks to its 6.7cm colour LCD touchscreen. It supports Apple AirPrint, Mopria, Canon Print Service, PIXMA Cloud Link, and Canon PRINT Inkjet/SELPHY mobile printing protocols for both iOS and Android devices, and you can scan documents directly to cloud services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and Evernote.

For businesses that need a printer that can regularly handle up to 3,300 pages a month, the GX7060 more than justifies its purchase price. Thanks to the price and yield of its ink refills, it’s an economical choice in the long run. Get your order fast! Place it before 2 pm Mon-Fri for same-day shipping from warehouses in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch (excluding public holidays). Typically deliveries to major New Zealand towns and cities take 1 to 2 days, while it may take a day or two longer for rural areas. Delivery of oversized printers that are too heavy for normal courier delivery is done by Mainfreight and may take a little longer on occasions. You’ll be notified when your order has been dispatched and provided with a tracking number so you can monitor the progress of your order.
