Product Details: Canon’s entry-level PIXMA TS3160 HOME wireless printer is both compact and stylish, and it can also copy and scan. Sold at an appealingly low price, it is intended for casual home use. And, so long as your expectations are modest and you don’t need to print very often, this printer could still be good value for money.

It all comes down to how much printing you do. The TS3160 ships with two full-size standard yield ink cartridges (PG-645 Black, and CL-646 Colour) estimated to print up to 180 A4 pages each. When you need refills, don’t be surprised — you will be paying about as much for new ink as you did for the printer. 

You can stick with the standard yield cartridges or opt for the high-yield PGI-645XL BK (up to 400 pages) and CL-646XL (up to 300 pages). The ink cost per page is steep, regardless, but the XL cartridges are slightly better value.

Print speed, while not fast, is reasonable for a budget inkjet, at 7.7 images per minute (mono) and 4 ipm for colour. Print resolution is up to 4800 x 1200 dpi, and (a surprise at this price point) borderless printing is supported for photo sizes up to 13 x 18 cm (5″ x 7″). You can connect a computer directly to the printer with USB 2.0, or print wirelessly from a computer, smartphone, or tablet, with support for the Canon PRINT app, PIXMA Cloud Print and Apple AirPrint (but not Mopria).

Cost per page aside, it comes with all the limitations you should expect of a budget printer. Notably, it works with 2.4g wireless networks only, doesn’t support automatic double-sided printing, and paper capacity is just 60 sheets. Nevertheless, if you only print and copy occasionally, the PIXMA TS3160 HOME is a great little All-in-One printer that produces excellent results for basic print jobs.

Typically deliveries to major New Zealand towns and cities take 1 to 2 days, while it may take a day or two longer for rural areas. Delivery of oversized printers that are too heavy for normal courier delivery is done by Mainfreight and may take a little longer on occasions. You’ll be notified when your order has been dispatched and provided with a tracking number so you can monitor the progress of your order.
