Product Details: The HP DeskJet 3720 is a versatile multifunction printer that’s notable for its size. It’s extremely small for a multifunction printer (HP claims it is the world’s smallest). But its size isn’t everything — this printer is particularly lightweight at just 2.3kg. It’s also rather stylish, which is not something we usually say about printers, let alone HP printers.
Perfect if you want everything but have a small budget and not much space, the DeskJet 3720 will easily fit on a desk or shelf, not getting in the way but there when you need it for printing, scanning or copying. Built-in Wi-Fi lets you print from your laptop, tablet or smartphone while, with Wi-Fi Direct, you can print even when there is no network.
Despite its small size, the DeskJet 3720 doesn’t sacrifice quality. You’ll get crisp and vibrant prints, whether you’re using plain paper for documents or specialty inkjet papers for photos (or borderless photos).
This printer is enabled for HP’s Instant Ink service, should you wish to subscribe. Sign up and your printer will let HP know what and how much ink you need and it will be sent directly to you. Instant Ink can be cheaper than paying for genuine HP ink cartridge replacements. However, you pay each month even if you are not printing, and you’ll pay extra if you exceed your page limit quota, but any unused quota does not roll over.
If you decide not to bother with Instant Ink, you can instead purchase HP 65 (standard yield) or 65XL (high yield) pigment-based black and dye-based tricolour ink cartridges. The good news is that these cartridges are also available in less expensive third-party compatible and remanufactured versions.
While the DeskJet 3720 has a lot going for it, it isn’t the printer for you if you print a lot when you print. It will happily print 50-200 pages a month (which is the recommended monthly page volume) and it is happy to be shared between one to three users. The maximum duty cycle is up to 1,000 pages, which may sound like a lot but you’ll be overworking this printer if you regularly print anything like that number of pages in a month. Besides, the paper tray will only accommodate 60 pages (with up to 25 sheets in the output tray). Print speed, too, is on the slow side at 8 pages a minute (mono) or 5.5 pages a minute for colour prints. If multipage scanning is your thing, you’ll be doing it page by page (there is no automatic document feeder). And if you want to print double-sided pages you can, but it’s not automated — you’ll have to manually flip the pages when alerted to do so by the printer software.
If you can live with those shortcomings, you will appreciate everything you get with this remarkably compact All-in-One printer. With its sleek design, easy setup, affordable price, wireless connectivity, and high-quality printing, it’s a great choice for small offices with light printing needs and tight budgets.
