Product Details: The HP LaserJet M209dw is a smart choice for home or small office users who don’t want a multifunction printer and don’t need to print in colour. There’s the price, for starters, but it’s also lightweight and compact, and it gets the job done quickly. Prints are delivered at up to 29 A4 pages a minute, with the first page printed in as little as 7 seconds. At print resolutions up to 600 x 600 dpi, documents are crisp and clear and produced at a very low cost-per-print.

A step up from the entry-level M110w mono laser, the M209dw is intended for one to five users printing 200-2,000 pages a month. For the extra cash, you get automatic double-sided printing, and faster print speeds, plus Ethernet, Bluetooth, and dual-band wireless connectivity. Additionally, mobile printing is supported when using HP’s Smart app (Android and iOS), Apple AirPrint, Mopria, or Wi-Fi Direct.

The M209dw comes with a 150-sheet input tray and an output tray that holds up to 100 sheets. It handles a range of media including plain paper, envelopes, labels and cardstock from 60 to 163gsm.

In most respects, this printer is the same as the M209dwe, except that it is not a contract printer. That means you don’t get the benefits of HP+, nor do you get a free six-month subscription to HP’s Instant Ink — but you are not beholden to the obligations that HP+ requires either. However, this printer is enabled for Instant Ink should you want to try it out.

HP’s Instant Ink subscription service isn’t right for everyone, but it does offer the convenience of never having to worry about running out of toner. Cartridges are ordered automatically by your printer and delivered straight to your door when you need them. Plans are flexible, based on your printing needs, and you can cancel at any time. Your monthly subscription cost is based on the number of pages you print rather than the amount of ink or toner used and you must keep your printer connected to the internet (it won’t work otherwise). If you decide you don’t want Instant Ink, the M209dw uses standard-yield HP 134A or high-yield 134X toner cartridges, and there are cheaper third-party compatibles available. The drum unit is included in the toner cartridge.

Typically deliveries to major New Zealand towns and cities take 1 to 2 days, while it may take a day or two longer for rural areas. Delivery of oversized printers that are too heavy for normal courier delivery is done by Mainfreight and may take a little longer on occasions. You’ll be notified when your order has been dispatched and provided with a tracking number so you can monitor the progress of your order.
