Product Details: The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is a step up from the similar but lower-priced HP OfficeJet Pro 7720. While the 7720 is a perfectly capable wide format colour printer, you may prefer the 7740 because it has twice the paper capacity (with two 250-page input trays), and it can copy and scan at up to tabloid size (297 x 432mm).

Paper capacity and copy/scan resolution apart, there is little to separate the two printers, excepting price.

Both printers are a natural fit for small teams needing to produce professional-looking colour prints and documents at up to A3 size. You can produce prints with a resolution of up to 4800 x 1200 dpi when using HP Advance Photo Paper, and print up to 34 A4 pages per minute when using draft mode (monochrome and colour). And with automatic two-sided (duplex) printing, you can save on paper costs. You can print wirelessly from your smartphone or tablet, even when no network is available.

You can fax, scan and copy, and a 35-page automatic document feeder helps make large scanning or copying tasks less time-consuming. Both printers let you scan to your computer, but the 7740 also enables scanning directly to email.

The HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 is ready for HP+ if you want to join the programme (you decide when setting up the printer). HP+ includes an extended two-year warranty and enhanced security features, and you get complimentary Instant Ink for three months. But it requires you to set up an HP account, have an ongoing connection to the internet (your printer won’t work without it), and exclusively use genuine HP Ink cartridges.

The 7740 uses HP 955 (standard yield) and HP 955XL (high-yield) ink cartridges, delivering up to 2,000 pages per cartridge (mono) and 1,600 pages per colour cartridge. Currently, there are no third-party compatible inks available on the market.

When to expect delivery:

Get your order fast! Place it before 2 pm Mon-Fri for same-day shipping from warehouses in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch (excluding public holidays). Typically deliveries to major New Zealand towns and cities take 1 to 2 days, while it may take a day or two longer for rural areas. Delivery of oversized printers that are too heavy for normal courier delivery is done by Mainfreight and may take a little longer on occasions. You’ll be notified when your order has been dispatched and provided with a tracking number so you can monitor the progress of your order.
