Product Details:

If you want your prints in black and white, and fast without any time-wasting, then the Kyocera ECOSYS PA5500x has your number. This monochrome laser printer doesnโ€™t do anything but print, but it prints very quickly, at up to 55 A4 pages per minute. Make that 39 ppm when you print double-sided. Warm-up time is 25 seconds or less, and the first print is in your hands with barely time enough to sip your coffee (thatโ€™s 4.5 seconds or less).

In common with other Kyocera printers, a standout feature of the ECOSYS PA5500x is its long-life components, which contribute to its durability and help minimise the total cost of ownership. While you pay more at the outset, you save on maintenance and consumables over the printerโ€™s lifetime.

Prints are sharp and clear, at up to 1200 x 1200 dpi. The standard paper capacity is 600 sheets, split between the 500-sheet main tray and a 100-sheet multipurpose tray, with a maximum of up to 2,600 sheets (with the purchase of optional trays) for uninterrupted printing.

Although standard connectivity is limited to USB 2.0 and Gigabit Ethernet (10BaseT/100BaseTX/1000BaseT), an optional Wireless LAN interface (IEEE 802.11b/g/n) is also available for printing directly via wireless. If, out of the box, this isnโ€™t quite enough printer for you, donโ€™t worry: other possible upgrades include SSD hard disks with different capacities, as well as extra onboard memory. While the printer is equipped with enterprise-level security features to protect sensitive information, you can add extra security options including an IC card reader, ThinPrint support and a Trusted Platform Module.

The starter toner included with the printer has a capacity of up to 10,000 pages. When you need a replacement, you want Kyocera TK-3434, which has an estimated 25,000-page yield and an appealingly low cost per page.

With a recommended monthly print volume of 15,000-27,500 pages, this is a reliable and efficient printer intended for workgroups that require high-volume printing. It is suitable for businesses of all sizes, from small offices to large enterprises โ€” wherever there is a need to do lots of black-and-white printing with minimal fuss and bother.

Features:

  • Single-function A4 mono LED printer with low operating costs

  • Environmentally friendly: long-life components, low energy consumption

Things to Consider with Compatibles

If youโ€™re considering using compatible cartridges, here are some key points to keep in mind:

Warranty

Using compatible cartridges does not automatically void your printerโ€™s warranty. Under NZ law, a manufacturer generally cannot deny a warranty claim unless the non-genuine consumable caused the fault. For peace of mind, we stand by our products: if a cartridge supplied by Good Egg is proven to have damaged your printer, we will put it right. For more detailed information, read our full guide: Will Using Third-Party Ink Void My Printer Warranty?

Printer Firmware Updates

Itโ€™s no secret that printer manufacturers make their real profits from selling expensive genuine cartridges. To protect those profits, they often release automatic firmware updates designed to block compatible inks and toners.

We believe you should have the right to choose what goes into the printer you own - just like choosing which brand of fuel you put in your car.

How we handle it:

  • Rapid Response: Our manufacturers are experts at "re-chipping." As soon as an update is released, our cartridge chips are updated to ensure they stay compatible.
  • Our Guarantee: We only stock cartridges with the most up-to-date chips. If a firmware update ever causes an issue with a cartridge bought from us, weโ€™ll provide a replacement - no dramas.

TIP: How to Protect Your Cartridges

The best way to ensure your cartridges keep working until they are actually empty is to disable Automatic Firmware Updates. If your printer receives an update while a compatible cartridge is installed, the manufacturer can "block" that cartridge instantly - even if itโ€™s brand new.

  • Why do it? It prevents your printer from being "told" to stop recognising the cartridges youโ€™ve already paid for. Turning off auto-updates keeps you in the driverโ€™s seat.
  • What about security? We recommend turning Auto-Update OFF, then manually checking for updates every few months. That way, you decide when to update, rather than letting the manufacturer decide for you.
  • The "No Undo" Rule: Please note that disabling updates won't "fix" a cartridge that has already been blocked; it only protects you from future blocks.

How to turn off updates: Settings are usually found in the "Maintenance", "Setup", or "Service" menu on your printerโ€™s screen. If you're stuck, just search online for your printer model + "how to turn off automatic updates" - it usually takes less than 30 seconds!
