Released in late 2023, the Brother HLL2865dw is an updated version of the popular and reliable HLL2375dw (a single-function wireless mono laser printer released in 2017).

At first glance, there’s little to tell the two printers apart except for the colour (the newer model is white, not black). They share the same compact size and shape, and Brother has kept all the features that have made the older printer such a reliable performer.

The Brother HLL2865dw features automatic two-sided (duplex) printing and a paper capacity of up to 250 sheets with a manual feed slot. Connectivity options include 100Mbps Ethernet, 2.4/5GHz Wi-Fi, USB 2.0, and WiFi Direct, with mobile printing support for Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Services.

The new HLL2865dw comes with more memory (128MB), beefed-up network security, and support for dual-band wireless. Print speeds remain the same at up to 34 pages per minute (ppm); 16 sides per minute when printing double-sided. Print resolution is up to 600 x 600 dpi, with a first page out time of less than 8.5 seconds. The recommended monthly print volume is up to 1,500 pages.

The printer ships with in-box toner manufacturer-rated to print up to 1,500 pages. The drum and toner units are separate, helping to reduce printing costs. When you need to replace the toner, in addition to the standard yield TN-2530 toner (printing up to 1,200 pages), there’s a high-yield toner (TN-2530XL) with an estimated 3,000-page yield. Print a lot, however, and you’ll want to get the even more economical option, a new super high-yield toner (TN-2530XXL; good for up to 5,000 pages).

In introducing the HLL2375dw’s likely replacement, Brother has made minimal changes. But, as they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. We expect this new printer to be every bit as popular in busy workplaces that need an efficient and reliable mono laser printer.
