Product Details: Sold as the TS8320 in the US and as the TS8350 in Europe, Canon’s PIXMA HOME TS8360a provides home users with professional-looking photos and artwork, and crisp-looking text documents that rival laser quality.

The TS8360a is an All-in-One printer that also scans and copies, but truly excels as a photo printer for home or home office use. A six-ink cartridge system that includes photo blue plus pigment black (in addition to dye-based black), ensures high-quality prints. Pigment black produces dark text and adds depth to images. Photo blue expands the colour range, helps eliminate grain, and reduces gradations in images that include blue skies or seas. The result is that you get rich, vivid, and accurate colours and sharp text at up to 4800 x 1200 dpi resolution.

This printer uses Canon ChromaLife 100 inks which promise to produce long-lasting photos and are known for their quick-drying and smudge-resistant properties. When you need more ink, you have a choice of standard yield, high yield (XL) or extra high yield (XXL) cartridges.

You have a choice of pigment black cartridges: PGI-680PGBK (rated to print up to 200 pages), PGI-680XLPGBK (up to 400 pages) or PGI-680XXLPGBK black pigment ink cartridges (up to 600 pages). You will also need black, cyan, magenta, and yellow dye-based ink cartridges: CLI-681 (250 pages), CLI-681XL (500 pages), or CLI-681XXL (800 pages). Naturally, the XXL cartridges are the best deal — they cost more but your ink cost per page is lower. For even greater savings, third-party compatible inks are also available.

Print speed is rated at 15 pages per minute (ppm) for mono pages and 10 ppm for colour pages. The printer comes with dual paper trays, both handling paper up to A4 size — a 100-sheet capacity cassette and a rear feeder that will hold 20 sheets of photo paper or 100 sheets of plain paper. While the TS8320 has a duplexer for double-sided printing, it lacks the automatic document feeder(ADF) you will want if you need to make multipage copies or scans.

Noteworthy features include a large 10.8 cm colour touchscreen, an SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card slot for standalone photo printing, a high-resolution scanner (2400 x 4800 dpi) and the ability to print directly onto CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs.

You can connect directly to the TS8360 via USB 2.0, with Wi-Fi Direct, or wirelessly using Bluetooth 4.0 LE or Wi-Fi (dual-band 2.4 and 5.0 GHz are supported). You can also print directly from a smartphone or tablet using the Canon PRINT app, Apple AirPrint or Mopria Print Services.

Overall, the Canon PIXMA TS8360a is a great choice for home users who want to give their photos and artwork an extra professional touch. As you might expect, its six-ink system means that its running costs are comparably high, but the availability of high- and extra-high-yield ink cartridges mitigates the expense for those who don’t mind paying a bit more for exceptional results.

Delivery of oversized printers that are too heavy for normal courier delivery is done by Mainfreight and may take a little longer on occasions.
