When to expect delivery:

Get your order fast! Usually same-day shipping from Auckland applies to orders received before 3 pm Mon-Fri (excluding public holidays). Typically deliveries to major New Zealand towns and cities take 1 to 2 days, while it may take a day or two longer for rural areas. You’ll be notified when your order has been dispatched and provided with a tracking number so you can monitor the progress of your order.

If you’re considering using compatible cartridges, here are some key points to keep in mind:

Warranty

Using compatible cartridges does not automatically void your printer’s warranty. Under NZ law, a manufacturer generally cannot deny a warranty claim unless the non-genuine consumable caused the fault. For peace of mind, we stand by our products: if a cartridge supplied by Good Egg is proven to have damaged your printer, we will put it right. Printer Firmware Updates

Printer manufacturers make significant profits from genuine cartridges. Consequently, some printer manufacturers (notably Canon and HP) release automatic firmware updates designed to block the use of compatible inks and toners by preventing printers from recognising non-genuine cartridges.

This practice is often criticised as unfair since it limits consumer choice. Imagine buying a car and being told you can only use one specific brand of fuel—this is a similar situation.

The good news is that manufacturers of the compatible cartridges we sell quickly respond to these updates. They update their cartridge chips to ensure compatibility with the latest firmware, so you can continue using compatible cartridges without any problems.

TIP – How to Stay Compatible

To prevent future firmware updates from affecting the compatible cartridges you’ve already purchased, we strongly recommend disabling automatic firmware updates on your printer so you don’t get caught by surprise mid-cartridge.

Note: firmware updates can also include security and reliability fixes, especially on WiFi/networked printers. A sensible approach is to turn off auto updates, then update manually from time to time after you’ve checked what the update changes.

If an update has already affected a cartridge, turning off auto updates won’t “undo” it.

Firmware update settings are typically located in the “Settings” or “Maintenance” menu of your printer. For printer-specific instructions:

Check your user manual, or
Search online for your printer model along with “turn off auto updates.”

In most cases, disabling updates is quick and simple.
